Caw! Caw!!
The legendary Essharan thunderbird soars above all others. It revels in storms and inclement weather. It brings the storm, flattening forests when threatened; it conjures hurricanes and blizzards when it hunts its prey. Seeing a thunderbird is considered a bad omen.

A whole lot of them have been seen in recent days.
Who are the Thunderbirds?

The Thunderbird Company was formed under the guiding concepts of camaraderie, adventure and self-betterment. It is an organization bigger than any one person in it. It serves no clear political agenda. Though it is an official, state-endorsed Guild in the back pocket of the Great Houses Pelleaux, Grimmore and Astor, rumors have circulated of the Thunderbirds meddling in less-than-legal contracts. According to this hearsay, the current Thunderlord, Teodor Hargrave, has been sighted in Moonfall on numerous occasions. Despite this, the Thunderbirds have garnered a reputation of honesty and trustworthiness, enough so to be entrusted with high profile missions by the nobility of Osrona. The question of their loyalties, however, remains yet to be answered.

The Thunderbirds are not strictly a mercenary company. They like to label themselves as an "adventuring guild" at times. Combatants and non-combatants alike join together to produce, create and serve for the betterment of people. They've been known to take on contracts for outrageously-discounted prices, for groups that don't have the outrageously deep pockets of nobles.

Among their ranks are combatants, merchants, alchemists, artificers, couriers, even doctors!

In recent news, the Thunderbird Company has elected to establish an official presence in Theria, capitalizing on the potential for new work. Thus, they've ramped up attempts to bolster their roster! Fliers are found everywhere, from Osrona, to Theria, even Moonfall!

Why join?
  • The Thunderbirds are the most prominent mercenary guild in Osrona, currently. For those seeking adventure and battle, there's no better choice than the protection and backup the Thunderbird's numerous members can provide you. (Events!!!)
  • If you are not a combatant, we work with merchants and craftsmen often. Your work could be subsidized, provided you do the occasional favors for your Guild!
  • Joining is not some great commitment. We have, in the past, allowed Knights of the Order of the First Light, and members of the City Watch to join the guild. You are not required to sever previous commitments to other organizations in order to participate in our own. (NOTICE: Knights seeking to join should seek to avoid conflicts of interest. Doesn't have to be a dealbreaker! If this changes, we'll let you know!)

The only exception is other mercenary companies. It is expected you'll commit to the Thunderbirds and not juggle around multiple mercenary companies. That would be a big no-go!!

  • Access to the Thunderbirds' connections in the upper echelons of Osrona!
  • Brotherhood. A new group of friends. Perhaps, even, a new group of family.
  • You get a really cool badge. Like, REAL cool.

We are NOT:
  • Vigilantes, or "boots of the state." We don't attempt to enforce the laws of Osrona or the will of the nobility, crown, in any way. HOWEVER, we may take contracts from the First Light or the City Watch that involve performing arrests on wanted criminals, provided they do not cause political issues.
  • Bandits. We won't perform explicitly malicious contracts. However, we hear out anyone who has a potential contract at least.
  • WE ARE NOT IDLE LAYABOUTS. Inactivity will result in expedient expulsion from the company.
Day to day duties:

The day to day for the life of a Thunderbird depends entirely on whether or not they're working on a contract. This can vary wildly; you could be spending weeks, even months out at sea or on the road. You could be performing security detail for a new upstart tavern. You could be tailing a target covertly, performing espionage, trailing a target to perform an arrest... whatever you can think of!

When there is not an active contract, more than likely you will want to busy yourself with work with other organizations! The Thunderbirds do occasionally train together, hold mini-tournaments, and do joint operations with other organizations.

Ranks:

  1. Thunderlord (1) - The highest Thunderbird; the Commander of the Company. They act as watchful protector, negotiator, final executive voice and brand ambassador of the Thunderbirds. There is only one; they are elected through a vote, when any member (traditionally, a High Thunderbird) decides to run against the current Thunderlord. Currently, this position is held by Teodor Hargrave.

When the Thunderlord is incapacitated, killed, or in any way becomes unfit to lead, they will be replaced by a successor of their choosing. A Thunderlord must always have a successor; this person won't know who it is until they receive the notice. In the event that this doesn't happen, an election will be called.
  2. High Thunderbird (3) - The top Thunderbirds. These members have proved themselves to be trustworthy and capable. The High Thunderbirds are a triumvirate operating under the watchful eyes of the Thunderlord. They have as much executive power as the Thunderlord; if all three are in agreement, they can override decisions made by the Thunderlord.

High Thunderbirds act as captains on the battlefield, leading the rest of the flock. They're expected to be extremely proficient warriors in their own right, perhaps even moreso than the Thunderlord.

They are chosen from the ranks of the Thunderbirds when there is a vacancy. Vacancies come when a High Thunderbird falls in battle, resigns, or is booted from the organization (for inactivity / misconduct / etc).

  3. Thunderbird (4-10) - The meat of the company. Thunderbirds are trained warriors, expected to carry out contracts when they come. They're encouraged to take on Recruits under their wing until they've proved themselves committed to the guild.

Recruits become Thunderbirds when they have proven themselves in battle, by completing a contract, or, sometimes, by showing high interest and aptitude upon joining. Currently, we are more than willing to accept people directly into the ranks of Thunderbird. This will change.

  4. Recruit (?-?) - New recruits who have yet to prove themselves. They are ostensibly Thunderbirds, but have not been given their special badge!

  5. (Support) (?-?) - Noncombatants. Dedicated merchants, craftsman, doctors, or other similar jobs. This is pretty open-ended. If in doubt, feel free to ask! Support members will be allowed to eventually become combatants themselves, and vice versa.
Regulations:
  • You shall not injure your fellow Thunderbird, lest both sides agree to the bout. Any violation of this rule will be met with a warning but, depending on the severity, may result in immediate expulsion from the Guild.
  • You shall not steal from your fellow Thunderbird, from their person or otherwise. Upon being accepted into the guild, you must ask to take items which don't belong to you. If items go missing, there will be a thorough investigation and the perpetrator will be dealt with harshly. This will not be limited to just expulsion.
  • Any serious injuries sustained while on a mission, depending on the severity, will be dealt with via compensation. We care for our brothers in arms and will put our utmost into remedying whatever injury you receive.
  • Once a Thunderbird has flown the coup and left the guild, if amicably settled, they shall be accepted back at any given time and treated with respect by the member's of the guild. Additionally, should a Thunderbird leave under bad terms, they won't be met with the same respect.
  • You are not bound to us. You may feel free to travel, pursue your own goals and brave the world, but the Thunderbird Company shall back you and act as support during your journeys. A Thunderbird should always make time to assist their fellow Thunderbird.
