While a Witch or Warlock is capable of many despairing actions, there is always a reason for it. They may sacrifice for each different reason, though almost always, it is selfish. Whether they wish for personal wealth, for the goods of others, or for simple revenge, each Warlock or Witch falls into a state of Occult Madness in their own way. Sometimes, it will show up as something more visible- gaunt features or pale skin, sometimes even pointed ears or reddened, sunken eyes. Other times, it will be much more hidden. A part of their psyche that digs in like a parasite, they would act more irritated, or perhaps arrogant. Something will always change as they go down that path.

That said, Warlocks and Witches are known for their occult uses- so counter measures have been put in to work against revealing themselves via the madness itself. Skilled actors, they are capable of avoiding even the powers of a truth potion- or so some of the whispers say. Using both their magic and their abstract lies, these Occultists are able to weave themselves as different people from who they truly are. Liars at their core, they cannot risk themselves to be found out. As an occult user like this dives deeper and deeper into their insanity, so too will their lengths be that they go to.

It is not unknown for a Warlock or Witch to manipulate others. Whether through acts of love or acts of violence and fear, they are able to bend people to their will. Some might even pity them, due to their 'forced' nature of being 'Evil'. Of course, the Witch or Warlock might use that, too. Through this, they do not always have to fight more often than not. Better to work behind the scenes, within the safe haven of their coven. Though they are capable fighters most of the time, they are capable of having others fight for them.

Their Covens are usually quite large, each new Witch or Warlock starting at the very bottom, trying to claw to the top. Newly made ones are usually the most eager- and unfortunately, they are also the most likely to make a mistake. This is why many Witches and Warlocks hide their identities, even when they're within the Coven. Due to the selfish nature of everyone there, it would be obvious to turn against each other and try to kill one another via revealing their identity. Anything to make it closer to the top of the ladder. A Coven, though, is likely the safest place for a Witch or Warlock to be in. Even with the added dangers, they are among 'kin', their witchcraft able to be used without too much to worry about, so long as not a lot is revealed. Along with this, other witches and warlocks are needed. After all, how else would they perform the Coven's Sabbath?

Sometimes known as 'Walpurgisnacht' (Literally Witches' Night), the witches and warlocks bring themselves together for a night of chaos. They feed on the sins of their forefathers, draining the land around them for Essence during the night of grand debauchery.

Through a ritual and a hex, a witch or warlock is capable of sending a command to someone else. Flooding them with power until the command is completed- or the person fails- they are capable of lending some of their power towards the person. Like manipulation, but far more direct. Some say that a witch performs their magic in each different, special way. The reason being that they must keep their own secrets.

One witch might bring her powers forth through sigils written in the air with their finger. Another might perform their magic through self flagellation using their blood. Another might do it through more intimate means- or yet another might perform it through sacrifice of others. Some might perform it through simple gestures- Others might dance to a tune that only their maddened mind can hear. No two Witches or Warlocks are the same due to this. The only similarities would be techniques shown in the Book of Shadows and the results which they have.

At the end of the day, a Witch or Warlock... Is absolutely selfish. Self serving. Many say they are incapable of a selfless act.

((Suggested Lore Below))

A witch or warlock is capable of forming a contract with a willing participant. Obviously, this person must be a very trusted being. Someone who will not be revealing their secrets, nor their identity. However, through this, a Witch or Warlock might now have a steady supply of essence at the cost of some of the Contracted's health. In return, the contracted may ask for power- through the Hexes, or through other means. Obviously, these contracts are all written differently, with different rules set in place.

Centuries ago, the first Witch made her contract with the Lord of Helheim. It would only be natural for the successors to follow in her footsteps. Most often, the Contracted are humanoids- those that have no demonic blood in them. Despite this, the relationship between a Contractor and Contracted is flexible and sometimes even positive- rare as it is. Most of the Contracted are, of course, loyal. As stated before, to know a Witch's identity, or even know they're a witch, is very, very powerful. It has a certain strength over that Witch, should it ever be spoken about.

The contract itself is made through blood. The terms are spoken about- and in order for the seal to be completed, both the Contractor and Contracted-To-Be must shed blood, each only a drop given to one another. Consumed, the seal is complete. They have a Blood Pact.

This contract cannot be broken by normal means. Not unless either participant dies. Even if one betrays another, the contract will remain. If the Contracted perishes, the Witch or Warlock might be able to create another Blood Pact. However, the pain of a Blood Pact being broken prevents them from forming another for at least a year or so.

Some say that should a Contracted betray the Contractor- the Witch or Warlock-  the Contracted will suffer a decrepit fate. Something worse than death.

Some even say that they are dragged down to Helheim with the Contractor, to fight for eternity at their side.
