Quote:-Introduction-

In the year 1737, a new branch of the Valeborne is created, one that sets itself apart from the Greycloaks in order to change what it means to truly serve the Vale. Some of the lesser authorities within Myllenoris have been spotted wearing these darker colors, and while their influence and power remains equal to the Greycloak, the Blackcloak is recognized as one who has taken upon themself a greater spiritual attunement via sacrifice and sacred vows. The responsibilities of those bearing the Blackcloak are ones that pertain directly to the protection of both the Vale and the Temple of Aschea, while the whole of the kingdom of Myllenoris is left in the hands of the rest of the Valeborne who already keep it organized.

-A Step Further-

It has been said that the Blackcloaks are a more extremist or zealous group when it comes to the faith of Aschea and the Vale. While the Valeborne in their entirety answer to the High Lord, the Blackcloaks' loyalty is placed in the even higher power of the spirits of the Vale themselves. This isn't to say that they are no longer underneath the High Lord's umbrella of power, but instead that should the High Lord's actions ever threaten the sanctity and balance of the Vale, it will be the duty of the Blackcloaks to stand against them and their loyalists. In this way, the Blackcloaks are encouraged to think for themselves, to question that which they don't understand or agree with, and to seek out answers no matter the cost.

Should great war or calamity fall upon the land of Esshar, it will be the Blackcloaks who remain steadfast at the gates of the Vale. It is they who give themselves unto the spirits in full, offering a part of their own soul, heart, mind, or body in order to achieve an exalted connection to the other side. This belief is considered an equivalent exchange between spirit and mortal, for just as the witches of Moonfall once sacrificed life and blood for recognition from their dark masters, so too do all spirits recognize a law of give and take. The greater the offering a Blackcloak makes in their vow, the greater chance they have at receiving the blessings and gifts they seek.

-Membership-

+ Only the Valeborne can join the Blackcloaks directly, and at least three years serving loyally as an acolyte or a Greycloak is required before one might be considered to join.

+ A Blackcloak is required to make a clear and concise personal sacrifice and promise to the spirits of the Vale upon induction. This decision should not be taken lightly and is done so before the rest of the sect so that they may be held accountable should they break their vows.

+ No Blackcloak may bear a vow to the spirits in private unless otherwise sanctioned by the High Lord.

+ The High Lord may recommend a Greycloak or Mistseer to join the ranks of the Blackcloaks, but it is ultimately the will of the spirits that one is inducted officially into the sect.

+ The High Lord or acting head of Aschea's Faith may choose a single Mistseer to lead the Blackcloaks. This Mistseer's prime responsibility becomes overseeing the sect and should likely be a long time member already, though it is always up to the High Lord's discretion.

+ Bearing the Blackcloak means one has bound themselves to a spirit or spirits of choice via a pact. Should a Blackcloak break their pact or go against the spiritual law they have set for themselves, they risk not only being excommunicated from the sect, but a loss of privileges within the Vale as well.

+ It is the duty of all Blackcloaks to stand guard over both the Vale and Aschea's temple, protecting both with necessary force from those who would defile them.

+ Failure to defend the Vale or the Temple of Aschea may result in excommunication from the sect.

+ Like the Greycloaks, the Blackcloaks are not restricted to only Teraphim membership.
