Origin
Fairy Magic is known throughout the world for being a wildly unstable and unpredictable. Throughout generations, tales have been passed down of the miracles performed by the Fae. It is amongst these stories and tales that you will find the birth of the Eidolons. It would not come as a surprise to many that such spirits would form under the circumstances that they do. Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life, resides deep within the core of the infinitely flowing spirit world. It acts as a focal point for soul and magic; home for the Fae. Within the mix of the emotions of the soul, the power of Yggdrasil, and the magics of the Fairy, the Eidolon are born.
Eidolons are spirits bonded with a human thought. A concept or emotion, a desire. Perhaps it was a love of some sort, or perhaps the desire to protect, or some simple wish a child made. Eidolons come in many different shapes and forms, although they almost always resemble a human, albeit only in figure. They are considered a benevolent spirit, working hand in hand with the Fae as both child and protector.
Thus, wherever the Fae are, it is not uncommon to encounter an Eidolon, guarding the village. Just like the Fae, they are an elusive species that has not been studied much by the likes of Man, and thus only stories and legends really exist. Eidolon physiology is not much understood, and they are believed to be entirely spiritual constructs, with no physical organs or anything of the like.
Yet they breathe, live, see, feel, eat, drink, and exist like any of the other mortal species, despite the vast differences between them.
Eidolons of Esshar
The Eidolons of Esshar are known to dwell in the Changeling’s Forest to the Northeast of Osrona. Hidden past treacherous mountains, it is an uncivilized forest that man rarely treads into. Those that do come back often spread tales of bizzare happenings and sights within the woods, let alone the presence of the Eidolon and the Fae they accompany. Such wild and loose magics indicate the location of the mythical village Charin, which has eluded most adventurers through the usage of powerful illusory barriers that hide it from the world.
The Eidolons may have been there before even Man arrived to the continent. Throughout the ages, their interactions have been minimal, but some claim that the creatures appear to humans in desperate need of help and protection.
And to purge the Occult and Corrupt.
As spiritual beings, the Eidolon are extremely sensitive to magics and actions that damage the world around them. As the continent is awash with the taint of the demonic incursion, it has been decided amongst the Eidolons and the Fae that action must be taken, lest their existence be put into peril. The prospect of Mordred’s return has pushed the peaceful beings out of hiding and onto the stage at last.
Variants and Leadership

The Eidolons take shape in many diverse ways, but there are three distinct categories of them amongst their race: Phantoms, Concepts, and Emotions.
Each of these types follow a singular Eidolon, seemingly connected to them in a strange way. Whatever Eidolon is chosen as leader will have an empathic reach spanning most of the spiritual race. These leaders are called ‘Idols’.
Phantoms

Phantoms are perhaps one of the more easily defined types of Eidolon. They are born of the dreams of battle, of valor and hope and heroism. It is not uncommon for them to resemble heroes from ancient tales and wield weapons of fables long forgotten. They are perhaps the forefront of the Eidolon’s strength, as they typically have a resolute will and desire to do good in the world.
The current Idol of Phantoms is War.
Concepts

Perhaps most difficult to explain are the Concepts. The concepts are born of philosphical musings, the questions of existence itself, the meaning and pondering of Avalon and beyond. They are often lost in thought, looking beyond their current existence to see greater pictures. As such, Concepts, even if aloof, are highly respected amongst the Eidolons when it comes to decision-making.
The current Idol of Concepts is Book.
 Emotions

The Emotions are primal. Eidolon born of the human heart, afflicted and gifted with the power of human emotion. They are the most empathic of their kind, but also the most bound by their creation. The Emotions are the most likely to act on a whim, driven forward by whatever desire they were crafted of. It is not uncommon for these Eidolon to possess elemental magics.
The current Idol of Emotions is Cheer.
No Eidolon is bound by law. The species as a whole is free to make its own decisions, and is expected to learn right from wrong by the feeling of their soul. The word of the Idols is not absolute, but is considered to be extremely important, as their judgment is likely pulled from the hearts of the Eidolon race as a whole.
Mechanics and Gameplay
Eidolon are, due to their rarity, meant to be an application only race, an opposite to Demons. They are distinctly meant to be ‘good’ and should act as such, even if subject to the whims of human emotion. Remember, they’re born of the lifestream, and are very sensitive to things that damage it.
Religiously, the Eidolons are heavily Krausite and primarily followers of the Angels. They do however have sects of Ryuujinite worship, as the Spirit Lord often resides above Yggdrasil.
Unlike Fairies, there's no fairy dust available if you kill one. Sorry, alchemists.
Eidolons are Spirits, and as such, wounding one 'permanently' is impossible. However, when an Eidolon is severely damaged, it uses a great amount of power to retain it's form, meaning they will still suffer permanent nerf penalties. They simply do not have physical forms to scar.
Eidolon are capable of locating portals to the Spirit World due to their nativity to it. This will allow Eidolons to set up events into the Spirit World, but doesn't necessarily make it any less dangerous a realm for mortals who accompany them...
Eidolons may use the normal Spirit sprite, however it is also possible to use custom sprites if you want to spice up your look. Remember, remain humanoid. I recommend throwing in wild fantasy colors or transparency!
