May be the same for all retainers, I'm not sure.

Choosing the 'Pale' skin tone option gives your retainer no base sprite at all, you can put clothes on them and everything to see where they are but their base sprite is invisible. I only have the one retainer, not sure about any other base colors.

We're aware of this and working to implement a fix. For now a janky way of setting them up would be to set an item to a low layered base sprite (such as shoes) and drag that onto them
