Time for the unpopular opinion. Bring it back to its original state with 15 range, and make it a master.

another suggestion would be to make it like the teraphim racial where they blitzed into light to do damage that knocked back.

Making it a mastery would do nothing to cull the lightspeed -> whip -> beam meta because the only beam outside of holy and occult is water dragon beam, and base water beam already exists anyways. It might make their builds marginally weaker but it won't solve the core issue here.

You’re right in that it doesn’t actually stop people from running it effectively, but it does make them overall weaker. 

Lightspeed being a master means you lose out on a broken aura, stance, or damaging ability. People running it would be less oppressive just from being short a mastery token, and imo that’s enough of a hit, even if you still can’t react to it.
